4.9.2012: Check In

Obsessing Over: Not obsessing at all in this particular moment, although I have been thinking lately about how i need to get back in gear with an exercise routine. My jeans are juuuuust a little more snug than I’d like. Plus, my head space could use the body movement.

Working On: All the things. But right this second, a “project description and mapping exercise” and then an article review for my ethnography class. All due at 6 p.m. Yikes.

Thinking About: My schedule, work, exercise, work, boy, work, friends, work. Finding life balance with work, basically.

Anticipating: The end of this day. Mondays are long and tough. I got to campus at 8:15 a.m., and I know I will not be on the train home until at least 9:15 p.m.

Listening To: Coffee shop noises.

Drinking: Lukewarm coffee.

Wishing: That I had about 1/10 of the work that I have to do. Also, that I had some sort of magic power to solve everyone’s problems. That’d be an amazing superpower.

Welcome to Topics (by TopicsCoffeeUSA)

Instead of world travel, I’m heading over to my new favorite coffeeshop, explicitly marketed to freelancers and mobile workers.

So so pooped

I have yet to do tomorrow’s editing, I have an entire book to read by 3 p.m. tomorrow, and I need to do a bunch of reading and write a short paper for my second-year paper adviser.

I may skip class tomorrow and give myself a “catch-up” day. That’d be legit, right?

“Feels like”

You know how ridiculous it is that the temperature right now is 17… but listed as “feels like 2”??? How is that even possible.

In other news, four hours of sleep is not enough, coffee and bagels may be my saving grace today, and now I need to finish writing a paper, edit the horrible spatial theory paper, and plunk up some sort of outline of things I want to talk about for my part of the presentation. Paper #1 needs to be done by my noon meeting. Then I have until 3 for the other stuff.

I’m a little regretful that I signed up for yoga class tonight, but I guess I’ll go, then go home to eat dinner (mmm an avocado awaits me) and then pass. out.

Cancel?

U of C just called to say it’s possible he has to deal with a work emergency (he’s calling his boss to find out shortly), but then that means no date, no after-date horizontal activities, and even more time for me to do the work I don’t want to be doing because I’ve already been doing it since 1 p.m. and it’s either kind of banal and pointless or theoretically dense and unmanageable in the evening hours (unless I drink, because that sometimes helps me understand philosophy).

Rawr.

Forge on

Tummy ache, what up.

Time to ignore it and plunge into my workload again. I’ve already procrastinated away my whole morning. Rad.

1 a.m. and done with tomorrow’s editing. Phew. One thing off the list before tomorrow’s really begun.

Plan:

  • Sleep.
  • 7:30 (err, maybe 8 a.m.?) wake-up
  • Run and yoga and all that bizness
  • Video date with fishy. Finally.
  • Shower, clothing, food
  • Train to campus
  • Errands
  • Finish reading for class
  • Go to class
  • Friend’s for dinner
  • Sleeeeep

Did I mention how glad I am that I only have class two days a week? No matter how stressful things are, I only have to be on campus two days a week from now through the end of March. This is such a leisurely, blissful thing.

Wah

The server for my editing job is acting up yet again. I swear, it’s every other day that I have to work this job. It makes it so that my editing work takes double the amount of time, and honestly, it’s almost not worth it. I mean, it is because, well, money. But it’s not because I’m spending my time checking and rechecking this damn server instead of running or reading or um, ANYTHING OTHER THAN WAITING FOR THE SERVER TO WORK.

Amazing day

Done with fall quarter of my second year of grad school (only two quarters left - and then no more coursework!).

Graded all of my students’ final exams.

Won the playoff and championship volleyball games.

Drank and ate with friends (and found a new favorite dive-bar that has resident dogs!).

Really a great day. Except now I need to edit 50 or so articles for work. At least I don’t have anywhere to be tomorrow!
