What do photographs of an Iraqi landscape, an empty concrete room, and a still life of a banana and handbag have in common? They all deal with the concept of space. Opening tonight at the Klompching gallery is the exhibition “The Architecture of Space,” which features explorations of space, both abstract and literal, by nine contemporary photographers, including The New Yorker’s own James Pomerantz.

Despite all of my doubts about my academic direction, I feel very comfortable, happy, lucky, excited, challenged, and captivated by the spatial turn.

Kids are awesome - two 17-year olds launch a lego into space on $400!
Mathew Ho and Asad Muhammad now have an awesome topic for their college essays. They launched a homemade balloon into space as one lucky lego got the ride of his life. The lego carried a Canadian flag and was attached to a video camera, collecting evidence of the journey.
So incredibly cool.
Meteor shower: An excuse for folks with binoculars to look less weird.
Keep your eyes on the skies, folks. It’s time for another Orionid meteor shower, guys! “From tomorrow up to 30 meteors an hour could be seen as they burn up, which can be best viewed in the northern hemisphere, with the optimum viewing times likely to be at around 1am or 5am.” This happens every October as the Earth passes through what’s been left by Haley’s Comet. source
